The project had a strong presence in the 2012 IEEE DySPAN conference, including a plenary talk by RWTH presenting first results from the measurements carried out in London in collaboration with the ACROPOLIS Network of Excellence project, and several demonstrations. The latter included a major integrated demonstrator on the usage of REMs to enable LTE operation in TV white spaces with improved resource management techniques, as well as showcasing methods for REM construction from massive data sets.

May 2nd-3rd, 2012 - Demonstration at the ECC/COST-TERRA Workshop on CR and SDR
The workshop organized jointly by ECC and COST-TERRA was intended as a place where academics, industry members, and policy makers could meet industrial exploitation, research developments, and regulatory progress in diverse topics related to cognitive wireless networks and software defined radio, including standardization activities. The workshop attracted more than 130 participants from all of the sectors mentioned above. BNetzA, one of the FARAMIR partners, also provided logistical support for the workshop organization. For the workshop RWTH and UKIM collaborated to set up a demonstration of the FARAMIR REM construction technology, especially focusing on spatial estimation of coverage areas as well as localization of signal sources.

February 16th-17th, 2012 - Seventh consortium meeting in Aachen
RWTH hosted the seventh consortium meeting in Aachen. The focus of the meeting was on finalization of technical documents on REM prototyping and resource management solutions based on radio environmental information, as well as planning of field trials and prototype integration steps for the reminder of the project.

December 6th-8th, 2011 - FARAMIR technologies presented at Orange Labs research exhibition
The project has given a successful demonstration of a radio environment map (REM) based solution for optimized resource allocation in femtocell networks. The demonstration took place during the Orange Labs research exhibition, arranged in Paris on 6-8 December, and was very well received by the high-profile groups of visitors attending the exhibition. As part of the demonstration the FARAMIR partners illustrated how radio environmental information can be used in conjunction with power control and channel assignment algorithms in both LTE and ISM bands to improve the spectral efficiency of wireless networks. The presented demonstration is an early instance of the integrated FARAMIR radio environment map prototype, which will be further extended during the coming Spring and tested through larger field trials.

September 29th-30th, 2011 - Sixth consortium meeting in Ohrid
UKIM team hosted the sixth FARARMIR consortium meeting in Ohrid. The meeting focused in particular on finalization of the REM architecture, including interfaces and data models, as well as on applications of REM technologies in operator networks.

July 1st-8th, 2011 - Spectrum measurements in London
In a joint effort with the ACROPOLIS NoE, FARAMIR conducted a week of spectrum measurements in different areas of London. The objective of the measurements was to improve the understanding of variation of spectrum usage across typical working days and weekends in diverse types of urban environments. Local organizational support was kindly provided by King's College London, one of the ACROPOLIS partners.

June 9th-10th, 2011 - Fifth consortium meeting in Stockholm
Huawei Technologies Sweden hosted the fifth FARAMIR project meeting in Stockholm. Among the topics discussed was cooperative sensing and neighbourhood mapping, as well as development of the final FARAMIR architecture together with prototype implementations targeting key application scenarios.

May 5th, 2011 - FARAMIR team wins DySPAN Best Demonstration award
The FARAMIR consortium presented their Radio Environment Map prototype in the demonstration session of IEEE DySPAN 2011, winning the Best Demonstration award of the conference. The demonstration consisted of a REM backend running on a relational database, receiving measurements from a heterogeneous network of spectrum sensors. From the measurements different characteristics such as spatial distribution of interference were estimated.

March 16th, 2011 - First technical review of the project
The first review meeting for FARAMIR took place in Brussels hosted by the European Commission. After several technical presentations, each followed by extensive technical discussion with the review panel, the project received a very positive overall evaluation together with a number of valuable suggestions to take into account for the second working period.

February 10th-11th, 2011 - Fourth consortium meeting in Barcelona
UPC hosted the fourth FARAMIR project meeting in Barcelona. The meeting had heavy focus on planning of measurement, implementation and prototyping efforts both on individual partner level as well as in terms of integration activities. Finalization of the demonstration setup for IEEE DySPAN 2011 and preparation for the first technical review were also major discussion items.

October 6th-7th, 2010 - Third project meeting takes place in Athens
The project partners gathered to Athens for the third plenary meeting of the project. Discussions on prototyping and spectrum measurement efforts continued intensively, and work towards the first draft of the FARAMIR system architecture progressed as well. Also as a key outcome of the meeting, the project partners voted to release the scenario document outlining different applications of radio environment maps for wireless systems as public document.

June 21st-22nd, 2010 - Second project meeting in Paris
The second plenary meeting of the project was organized in Paris, hosted by France Telecom. A number of technical work items were in the agenda, including system architecture development, as well as work towards consolidate use cases and application scenarios for radio environment maps.

January 26th-28th, 2010 - EC Events in Brussels
FARAMIR partners and the coordinator participated actively into a series of events organized by the European Commission in Brussels. These included concertation and cluster meetings, as well as regulatory workshop on potential policy implications and challenges of cognitive radio technologies and radio environment maps.

January 14th-15th, 2010 - Project kick-off meeting in Aachen
The project was officially kicked off in a meeting hosted at the Institute for Networked Systems of the RWTH Aachen University by the project coordinator. In addition to administative issues, extensive technical discussions took place, and work towards compilation of state of the art survey, initial system architecture, and key usage scenarios for radio environment map technologies were initiated.
